Canada 150 / Terry Fox
All three pictures below were taken September 29th 2017. This shooting assignment was about my school, St.Joseph's, celebrating Canada's 150th birthday and The Terry Fox Foundation. The pictures below are mainly around the beginning of the walk since they were the nicest ones that stood out to me the most.
I wanted to focus on getting the school as a whole in this picture. I ended up decreasing the exposure and darken up the shadows since the picture was a bit too bright. It was a slight struggle because the people one the right turned out pretty dark but after decreasing the blacks and increasing the whites, it turned out better. Also the photo had too much head room and a lot of space at the bottom which meant t needed to be cropped.
This photo was taken from one of the activities being done before the walk. This is the student who won the timbit eating contest which was- pretty funny. The original was a bit too dark so the exposure needed to be adjusted slightly higher, along with a better white balance since it was a bit too cool for my taste. Knowing that there were many people in this photo, I made it so there would be a shallow depth of field to focus on the three people in front.
This photo is personally my favourite because it just shows the people that are close to me having fun. First of all, the original picture was pretty dark mainly on the side of where the girl to the left is. I very much needed to increase the exposure and increase the highlights in Lightroom so the picture didn't look like it was taken on a gloomy day.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving, a great holiday to spend time with family and pass out right after you eat. I spent my Thanksgiving on the 8th instead of the ninth at my cousin's house since it had more space. All these pictures were taken on my phone and inside so they might look slightly noisy aside from the last one.
This picture was taken as everyone was getting their plates ready for the good stuff. I tried to get all ten people in this picture but the space was tight. The lighting in the room was very yellow and since I kind of liked it, I used the white balance to cool the picture down a bit so it didn't look like my family was in an oven. By decreasing the exposure and the whites, I was also able to diminish the amount of light the ceiling light was giving yet it still turned out pretty bright.
This is a picture of my grandpa and my baby cousin reading a book. I chose this picture because I thought it was super cute. First off, I had to crop out the TV since it was way too bright. The light from the TV was still pretty blinding so I had to again, decrease the exposure but also increase the blacks a bit. I tried to clarify the picture as best I could without making it look funky to try and get rid of all the noise going on.
This picture is of the puppy I got that day. I picked this mostly because I like showing him to people since he's so freaking cute. I didn't do a lot for this picture as I did for the other two. I cropped a lot since there was a lot of room at the bottom and I darkened it a bit by decreasing the exposure. IF you were wondering, his name if Jack ( as in Jack the Pumpkin King from Nightmare Before Christmas ) and he's 8 weeks in this picture.
Shadows
These pictures were taken in Niagara and Toronto while on a small vacation to show my exchange student more of Canada.
This picture was taken in Toronto while the sun was setting. It was a great opportunity to take a picture of a mom walking along with other people. I had to bring up the contrast and lower the exposure. Another thing that had to be done was bring down the shadows so they were shown through the sunlight.
This photo was taken in Niagara when we went to The Journey Behind the Falls. The lights in the tunnels were very useful to me. My exchange student decided to play around with his hand shadows so this came out as a goof photo. Of course, I had to bring down the shadows and continue to darken the shadow with blackening the picture. The last thing I did was bring up the exposure and the whites so the shadows could pop more,
This picture was also taken on The Journey Behind the Falls. This was where the banister was when walking to the outside portion next to the falls. The natural light, tunnel lights and the wet ground made the picture stand out to me. I had to bring down the exposure and bring up the contrast slightly. I also increased the blacks in the photo along with the shadows.
Autumn
I went around my neighbourhood and to the park near my house around late afternoon since it just seemed the nicest during that time
I took this picture on the corner of George and Ypres. This picture really stood out to me mostly because of the birch tree. For this picture, all I did was crop some of the bottom and use the white balance to warm it up.
This picture was taken of a tree at one of the houses on my street. I brought up the saturation a bit to show off the sky and the coloured leaves. Also, I went in and made the tree trunk a but lighter so it wasn't making the picture look awkward.
This picture was taken at the park and at this time it was pretty windy. I cooled down the picture using the white balance. I also did the same with the last picture and made the trunks of the trees lighter.
Halloween
During Halloween, I had a very small house party with a few friends. We stayed inside most of the time but we also went trick-o-treating for about an hour. It was nice to spend time with people during Halloween.
I took this picture once everyone got to my house, I wanted to try and take a picture of everyone in that moment. The photo was a bit to bright so I brought down the exposure while also increasing the blacks. To balance it out a bit liking the darkish look, I increased the whites and some of the highlights.
This picture was of one of my best friends and my exchange student. This picture was a bit too dark so I increased the exposure and the highlights. I also decreased the contrast a bit.
This picture is again outside with my two friends while trick-o-treating. The background looks dark so I ended up not changing it since if I raised the exposure, the picture would look noisy. I had to increase the shadows a bit since my friend in the doctor coat was way too bright. The white coat was too blinding and distracting. Also, I brought up the highlights a small bit along with a crop.
Shoes
All these pictures were taken inside to see the life of shoes outside of outside. The life the shoes live when they're not being poured on by rain or soaked in mud.
This picture is of my Timberlands that I wear very much. The brown pair or the originals are the ones that I've had since I started grade nine. They have been through a lot. Now my room is quite dark so I had to increase the exposure and the highlights by only a bit. I did decrease the shadows a bit to give these hard working shoes some depth.
This was taken in my closet on my shoe rack. I wanted to show some of the shoes I had in a different way. I increased the exposure on this picture but decreased the blacks so the whites of the converse wouldn't be to distracting. I also cropped the left of the picture so it would focus on the shoes. As you can see, these shoes are reminiscing on their the past, in the comfort of the safe shoe rack... away from my dog.
This last picture is of my mom wearing her fashion forward Chanclas (sandals in Spanish). These shoes are showing that even inside, shoes can be worn. I increased the exposure and decreased the the shadows in this photo. I had to crop it to get the main focus on the great sandals of the mother. It was nice to have a model for these lovely ladies.
